Charity appeals: verify the cause before the payment page
A moving appeal can make donating feel urgent. Taking a moment to identify the organization helps ensure that your decision supports the cause you intended rather than a convincing imitation.

Find the organization directly
Search for the official site and relevant registration information in your jurisdiction. Check the exact legal name and how donations are used. A familiar-sounding name or copied photograph is not enough.
Review the payment request
Be cautious about unusual payment methods, pressure and claims that only one immediate route is available. If a friend shared the appeal, ask whether they verified it rather than assuming their good intentions establish authenticity.
Keep the record
Save the donation receipt and review whether you selected a one-time or recurring payment. Avoid publishing personal payment details while encouraging others to help. A considered donation can still be generous and timely. The verification step is not a judgment on people in need; it is a way of protecting the connection between your intention and the organization receiving the money.
