Marketplace meetups: agree on the transaction before leaving home

Buying or selling locally can be convenient, but a rushed meetup leaves little room to question unexpected changes. A clear plan covers the item, payment, location and what will make you walk away.

Keep the agreement in one place

Record the item description, agreed price and any important condition. Use the platform’s tools where appropriate. Be cautious about pressure to leave the platform immediately or provide unrelated personal details.

Choose a suitable meeting arrangement

Use a public location appropriate to the transaction and local guidance. Tell a trusted person the plan. Large or unusual items may require a different arrangement, but convenience should not replace a thoughtful assessment.

Verify before completing

Inspect the item safely and confirm payment through your own trusted account interface, not a screenshot supplied by the other person. Do not refund an alleged overpayment simply because a message says funds were sent. If the terms change unexpectedly, pause or leave. A legitimate transaction should allow enough time to understand what you are receiving and how payment is being handled.
