A home Wi-Fi review without changing settings at random
Router settings can be intimidating, but a careful review does not require experimenting with every advanced option. Start with the device’s official instructions and a record of the current setup.

Identify the equipment
Find the model and the provider’s support page. Check whether updates are automatic and whether the device is still supported. Use the official management method rather than a link sent by an unsolicited caller.
Review access deliberately
Check the administrator credentials and wireless security settings using current manufacturer guidance. Remove access you no longer need and consider a guest network if the equipment supports it appropriately. Keep recovery information secure.
Change one thing at a time
Record an adjustment and verify that necessary devices still work. If the network supports medical equipment, work systems or other important services, consult the relevant support before making disruptive changes. Security maintenance is more effective when you understand the result. Randomly toggling unfamiliar features can create outages without providing the protection you hoped to gain.
